Harvest 2020

Generally, harvest is one of the most exciting times of the year in wine country...

Our vineyard team works hard all year towards the fruition of a single moment: pick day.

364 days of work for the grapes to reach their perfect potential. In the winery, the team works relentlessly to preserve and honor the fruit of the year’s labor; the grapes are at their absolute peak the second they are hand-harvested from the vines. At Lytle-Barnett with every careful step we take in the winemaking process, we strive to lose as little of that magic as possible.

This year’s a little different; the fires have put everything in a new perspective for us.

First and foremost, we’re filled with gratitude towards our hardworking crews for doing their best during an incredibly difficult time. Their safety is an absolute priority for us and we’re doing everything we can to ensure that they’re healthy, and fully supported.

Second, this vintage highlighted that we are truly a part of an ecosystem and that responsible stewardship of our planet, to say nothing of our vineyards, will be crucial to everyone enjoying wine in the future. Nothing happens in a bubble and we’re hoping we can do our part to help reverse the extremity of these recent fire seasons through responsible management of our land and winery properties.

Lastly, we’ve renewed our commitment to hope. Our world is a little dark right now, both literally and figuratively, but we’re filled with optimism that we can get back to normal and brighten the world sooner rather than later by keeping our eyes on the horizon. We think bubbles are the most hopeful beverage (we might be biased) and we look forward to a more peaceful time celebrating the connection between man, land, and vine with you, whether here in the Willamette Valley, or at your table.
